1000 Gifts

It’s been a while since I’ve written gifts in my “1000 gifts” series so I think it’s time for an update…

The ability to conceive a child. The feeling of Baby Brantley kicking me, even when it keeps me up at night. Fruit smoothies and Nutella…. pregnancy cravings! Hayley’s random texts about how excited she is for a new baby cousin. My husband’s amazing work ethic. Having an excellent travel buddy as a husband. Maternity jeans.

Thank you for patience, for the way my favorite 4 year-old patient says my name, for my teacher-like handwriting (courtesy of my Mom), and for highlighters and their positive impact on the organization of my life! I don’t know what I would do without highlighters telling me what’s what in my planner: business, personal, evaluations, meetings, errands, etc.  Highlighters make the world go round.

One Thousand Gifts

On my way to a family dinner party last night, I overheard my mom and her friend discussing a book they’re reading for their Bible Study.  The book is called “One Thousand Gifts” and talks about how God bestows His grace on us every single day.  The author challenges readers to recognize the amazing grace God providesto us in the beauty of our daily lives, in the things we may even consider “mundane” because they’ve become the norm.  But nothing is ever mundane in life when it is given to you as a gift from God.

I was challenged by this concept, especially because it is usually only at Thanksgiving that we verbally and openly list the things that we are thankful for, but it is rare that I outwardly express these thoughts on a daily basis.  So I am adding a page to my blog called “1,000 Gifts” and my goal is to write 1,000 things that I am thankful for, 1,000 things in my life that I can recognize as a gift from God.  My hope is that as I begin to see my life from this new perspective, He will continue to shed light on the areas of my life that I don’t thank Him enough for, where I may feel self-sufficient, where I may feel that it was all good timing and coincidence, because in my heart I long to know that it is always His timing and His plans that I continue to strive for.  This should be an interesting, exciting, and humbling process and I hope it may inspire some of you to also list your “1,000 gifts” and view your life in this new light.
